With National Coffee Day coming up on October 1, we want to make sure you have all the right places on your radar. Here are some of top suggestions:
This small batch, gourmet coffee house offers “strong and bold” house-roasted beans from around the world and is located in the historic Fin Hotel in Oceanside. Fun fact: Found by a Marine Corps veteran, fire captain, and entrepreneur Kevin Shin, North County Roastery is one of four eateries located within the hotel. Designed to be an environment that energizes customers, physically and mentally, great for working. North County Roastery’s walls are strewn with images and quotes from inspirational leaders including Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, and Kevin’s greatest inspiration, his mom.
With an immense passion for coffee, roasters Jason Walker and Kevin Shin roast and extract all beans with precision, using a San Franciscan SF-6 roaster on display in the shop, creating an environment that is both welcoming and educational for all coffee lovers. Apart from the wide selection of unique coffee flavors, specialty drinks include the Lavender Vanilla Latte, Iced Coconut Matcha Latte, Strawberry White Mocha, a Coffee Flight with house espresso, house brew, cold brew, and more.
Emphasizing the importance of love and community as part of North County Roastery’s ethos, North County Roastery has partnered with the Nowell Family Foundation, the family of Bradley Nowell, who is the lead singer of the band Sublime. The Nowell Family Foundation built “Bradley’s House,” a recovery facility that provides treatment for people in the music industry with opioid addiction, regardless of their financial situation. To help contribute to clinical care costs and medical detox treatments, North County Roastery also offers a special Bradley’s House Blend, a perfectly blended dark roast, with proceeds going directly to the foundation.
Future coffee collaboration givebacks include a blend for the North County LGBTQ Resource Center, whose mission is to create a community where everyone lives in equality and feels accepted, valued, safe, and free from social stigma.
In addition to serving breakfast items from Switchboard, North County Roastery also serves tea from local company, The Loose Leaf Tea Co. Customers also have the option to bring beans home by partaking in the ‘Coffee Can Club,’ in which patrons can purchase a custom refillable Airscape Coffee Canister and receive $2 off every pound of coffee.
